Services

Postpartum planning
You and your partner/ support person will be guided in how to create a sacred, healing and positive postpartum experience. This includes 1-2 visits before baby arrives to review postpartum nutrition, postpartum physiological changes, traditional healing practices, and developing a postpartum plan. In addition, we will explore your postpartum goals, fears, dreams and aspirations. You will be walked through practical logistics of supports, meal trains, child care for siblings and much more. At the end of the sessions you will have a completed postpartum plan, a guide for postpartum nutrition and several healing techniques you and your partner can implement directly after the birth.

Warm oil massages
Abhyanga ayurvedic (heated oil) self massage, lymphatic breast massage, womb, and abdominal self massage. Across many cultures this type of bodywork is a postpartum prescription to assist in stimulating blood flow which in turn: cleans, renews, moves fluids (it may also help with milk supply), moves hormones, stimulates the immune system, and helps tone muscles and tissues. You will be provided with step by step instructions on how you or your partner can provide this loving touch that is so essential to cleansing and healing the postpartum body.

Abdominal Warming Treatments
Moxibustion treatment: Moxa is a Chinese herb that is burned near the skin because of its ability to deeply penetrate organs, strengthen, tone and move them. Moxibustion can help ligaments return to their pre-pregnancy strength, build new blood, and move fluid in the body to prevent stagnation. Castor oil treatment: Castor oil is derived from the castor seed and has been used as a healing remedy for centuries.  Castor oil helps to decrease inflammation, pull out toxins in tissues and dissolve scar tissue. These treatments will be applied to the mother’s womb as needed.

Closing of the Bones Ceremony
This is an ancient healing ceremony that is created to nurture the mother after her passage through giving birth and her journey into motherhood. The mother will be guided through a warming process (either sitz bath or Yoni steam) followed by a reiki treatment and then traditional wrapping with a rebozo cloth. During pregnancy women’s hips become wider. After the birth it is paramount to help close them back to their normal width, otherwise mothers can suffer from pelvic instability. Beyond the physical aspect of closing the bones, there is also a spiritual aspect to the treatment which provides a safe space and ritual for the mother to feel nurtured and release emotions associated with the pregnancy, birth and motherhood.

Vaginal Steaming and Herbal Sitz Bath
Vaginal (or Yoni) steaming is a forgotten practice from around the world. It is a ritual of sitting over a pot of selected herbs steeped in hot water. Steaming has the ability to penetrate deeply into reproductive organs. There are many potential benefits to steaming postpartum: it warms the body, clears out residue in the uterus, improves circulation for faster healing, and aids the process of organs returning to their optimal position. Some women have reported that steams also help with prolapse. A steaming session will be prepared for the mother and guidance on how to set up future steams for herself.

Birth Story Ceremony
Giving birth is sacred, deep, and transformative work. However, we often do not get the chance to share our whole birth story. It ends up being interrupted, summarized or edited to fit an audience. A sacred space will be created to honor the birthing journey the mother has been on. She will be guided through a process of storytelling that will allow her to feel the whole experience on an emotional, physical and spiritual level. We will process any potentially traumatic, disappointing or challenging events that may have occurred, as well as, honor this rite of passage.

Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing through which a "universal energy" is said to be transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the client in order to encourage emotional or physical healing. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.  Reiki in the postpartum can also help the body find a new energetic balance after the birth.

Referral and Resource Lists
A specialized list of postpartum resources, support communities (online and in person), books, podcasts, classes, free resources, work sheets, and postpartum educational handouts will be provided to mothers.

*The postpartum practitioner should not be confused with a postpartum doula. The following services are complementary to those of a postpartum doula and do not include childcare or doing household chores.
